Thank you for visiting the Office of Catholic Schools website!

Catholic elementary and secondary schools in the Archdiocese of Hartford have a wonderful tradition of educating children and youth in three Connecticut counties - Hartford, Litchfield, and New Haven.

Today, there are sixty-nine Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Hartford serving more than 18,000 students from pre-kindergarten to twelfth grade in rural, urban, and suburban locations.  Our diverse student population provides for a more socioeconomic, cultural, religious, and ethnic balance within the school communities.

Our rigorous academic programs are rooted in the basics, incorporating technology, world languages, sciences, fine arts, and wellness education that offer students traditional, innovative, and advanced learning opportunities.

Woven into all subject areas are Catholic teachings and moral education that will challenge students to think critically.  Faith and knowledge are the key elements that make our schools so distinctive and very successful.

In 2005, the United States Catholic Conference of Bishop published a document on Catholic elementary and secondary schools.  This document states, “young people are a valued treasure and the future leaders of our Church.”  We, the Catholic educators commit ourselves in providing students with an excellent education so that they will succeed in the 21st century.

We, the educators, in partnership with the parents, are committed to providing the best learning experiences so that students will have the skills and knowledge to become productive moral citizens and spiritual leaders within a multicultural and technological world.

Furthermore, “it is the responsibility of the entire Catholic community—bishops, priests, deacons, religious, and laity—to continue to strive toward the goal of making our Catholic elementary and secondary schools available, accessible, and affordable to all Catholic parents and their children, including those who are poor and middle class.  All Catholics must join together in an effort to ensure that Catholic schools have administrators and teachers who are prepared to provide an exceptional educational experience for young people—one that is both truly Catholic and of the highest academic quality.”  (USCCB, Renewing Our Commitment to Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools in the Third Millennium, 2005)
